Holiday Homes

A home away from home — designed to last a lifetime

As experienced holiday home architects working across New Zealand, we know that a home away from the city deserves exactly the same level of care and thought as any other home — perhaps more.

At Rogan Nash Architects, we design holiday homes that are built to last. Each one is shaped by its setting and reflects the way you want to live when you step away from everyday life.

Award-winning holiday home architects

Our holiday home projects span some of New Zealand’s most beautiful coastal and island locations. On Waiheke Island, we designed a house that won the 2026 NZIA Auckland Architecture Award for New House. On Opito Bay in the Coromandel, we designed a beachfront home for a multigenerational family. Together, these projects show what is possible when a holiday home responds specifically to its place and its people. HOME Magazine, NZ House and Garden, and Here have all featured our holiday home work.

What holiday homes require

Designing a holiday home brings its own specific challenges. Coastal sites demand materials that withstand salt air and weather. Remote locations need careful planning around access, logistics, and services. Many holiday homes also need to flex for large family gatherings — and then scale back comfortably for two on a quiet weekend.

We have worked through these demands many times. As a result, we understand them well. Every decision matters more on a coastal or island site. From the orientation of the plan to the choice of cladding, we make each one with care.

Designed for the way you use it

Whether you are planning a beachfront home on the Coromandel or a coastal retreat on Waiheke Island, we start by understanding how you plan to use the property. Who comes to stay, and how often? How many people at peak? Do you want a home that flexes for large gatherings, or a quiet escape for two? Those answers shape every aspect of the design. The plan, the materials, the relationship to the landscape — all of it follows from how you actually want to live there.

A home that earns its place in the landscape

The best holiday homes settle into their surroundings rather than imposing on them. They draw on local materials and respond to the landscape. Over time, they become as much a part of the land as the setting around them. That is what we aim to create: a holiday home that feels like it has always been there.

Architecture for a lifetime of living.
