A large and dramatic cast concrete home by Cockle Bay waterfront definitely is the client’s castle. The clients wanted to express their bold personalities by incorporating their many vintage and industrial pieces in the design.
A home built like a ship
Helping bring these quirky elements together made it a fun project. The home is arranged over three levels, and like a ship, the lower level — containing an extensive garage, workshop and wine cellar — sits below the “water,” or fence line. Ship chain links surround the garden, and a porthole peeps out from the front.
A house for entertaining, retreat, and everything in between
Above, a full cinema, an entertainment terrace with barbecue kitchen, a raised pool, and multiple bedrooms create a space for parties, guests, and teenagers alike. Conceived as a separate adult apartment, the upper floor is a dedicated retreat of its own. Connecting each level, a lift is inset with coins the client laid himself — a small, personal detail in a home that’s rugged, eclectic, and yet refined throughout. It was a deeply personal project for everyone involved.
