Push Me Pull You
Concept
Westmere | New House
A concept design for a new build family home in Westmere — a study in rhythm, texture, and quiet sculptural form, designed for a professional couple and their two teenage children. A palette of white brick and warm cedar establishes a sense of calm permanence, while a finely detailed cedar screen wraps the façade in a motif of folding and unfolding that becomes the guiding language of the whole project. Subtle shifts in the floor plan create moments of compression and release, while bespoke cabinetry continues the theme with crisp lines and faceted surfaces.
The house is arranged as a generous five-bedroom family residence across two living areas, designed for both everyday ease and the different rhythms of a busy family life. Beneath the house, a substantial underground basement provides parking for multiple cars alongside a workshop — concealed from view and fully integrated into the plan. The marble kitchen is both a working heart and a considered piece of architecture in its own right, with surfaces and finishes that hold their own against the warmth of the cedar and brick exterior.
Alongside the pool, a separate pool house offers a genuinely flexible retreat — equally suited as a home office for focused work, a hangout space for teenagers, or a quiet guest escape. It extends the functionality of the house into the garden without overstating its presence.
Set within its verdant Westmere surroundings, the architecture balances softness and precision, solidity and lightness. It is a home that reveals itself gradually, where each fold, screen, and surface contributes to a cohesive and quietly expressive whole.
