Home Sweet Home
Grey Lynn
A new home in Grey Lynn, shaped with little hideaways and cosy corners, sunken lounges, tucked-away snugs, and places where you can exhale and feel the day soften. It’s a sanctuary made for slowing down.
Its setting carries the same sense of gentle retreat. Though nestled in one of Auckland’s most beloved city-fringe suburbs, the house sits quietly at the end of a leafy cul-de-sac. The site itself is a delightful oddity: a quirky triangle with a steep slope at the rear, calling for creativity and a touch of whimsy in its design.
A parking area greets you at street level, before the ground steps gracefully down to the front door. Inside, thoughtful design makes the most of every inch. Rogan Nash is proud to have achieved a Homestar 6 rating by the New Zealand Green Building Council – proof that beauty and sustainability can live comfortably side by side.
Colour-blocking becomes a playful way to distinguish the home’s inner worlds. The arrival moment is marked by graphic olive and white Mutina tiles. The kitchen glows in slate green; a dusky blue sideboard settles the dining room; the living space rests in sandy beige; and pale, dreamy pinks signal the hardworking areas like the laundry and scullery. Upstairs, bold patterned wallpapers bring joy and energy to each of the three bedrooms.
At the centre of it all sits the snug. Quietly separate from the rest of the house, it’s a treasured retreat, doubling as a media room. Dressed in deep maroon, it draws you in like a good story. The whole palette, intentionally a little mismatched yet deeply harmonious, creates a sense of sweet nostalgia: warm, familiar, and wonderfully homely.
Clever use of colour-blocking furter delineates areas of the home. Graphic olive and white Mutina tiles immediately set the tone at the entrance. The kitchen is slate green, a dusky blue sideboard anchors the dining room, the living area is sandy beige, and paler pinks denote the service areas such as laundry and scullery.
Bold patterned wallpapers add vibrancy to the three upstairs bedrooms.
In this home, it’s the snug that’s the heart. It acts as an all-important media room and the colour tone here is a deep maroon that draws the eye.
